19-Jan
Whoa! That was an awesome 3-hours (approx 10 pm - 1 am) we spent at parklane carpark adjacent to ayala (we, being: celeste, pats, joan and myself). Since I planned since last journal entry (hard copy), we left Lear at 9 to get to the y101 and pepsi event.
the concert was already well on its way when we arrived. scrambled egg was onstage. Eman, the vocalist was good (boy, i just read that the kid was the pda eman from iloilo. i could have bullied him to pose with us...hehehe) and was very talkative offstage. i did not get to listen well to their numbers since as we've just arrived, we were more keen on finding the right spot (right next to the railing, where else?) than jamming with the group. next group called themselves uk lily (actually i don't know how it's spelled but it sure sounds like how i typed it). cherryl would have died and gone to heaven with their 80's numbers from u2 and tears for fears. their rendition invoked in me the interest to explore the classics which i am to commence right away. the kids (yes, that's the majority of the crowd we're with. most looked like they're still in high school) didn't seem to enjoy the repertoire until coldplay's yellow was sung. the third group played reggae numbers which actually made my head swim. i think they were the 'powerspoons'(?). then the best thing of my day went on stage. i haven't seen an unobstructed view of the drummerso i wasn't sure if it was really vic mercado there. in next was the pretty ira (sigh). i don't have any more words left to write--it seemed to have gone away together with my voice, which is kind of hoarse from alternately calling out bamboo's and ira's names. i was starstruck, again. i still am. i even forgot what they sang first, but they did masaya, awit ng kabataan, elesi, 214, FU, ulan, noypi, aleluya...and--well i recalled that much. pats managed to get some good videos (full length of their last number) and bits of ira dishing out his rare dashing smile (sigh).
we stood right where ira was. and he went all the way to the edge of the stage as far as his guitar wire would allow him everytime he gives his guitar solo, which is a tad too frequent (did i mention nathan was nowhere to be seen? sick maybe. i read their site recently and the group is everywhere).
at one point, bamboo went downstage, jumping from our side but security was a lot faster than the time i required to extend my arms out and bamboo was gone from reach too soon. and sad sighs were expelled. apparently, that wasn't how my day would end. in one of their numbers later in the concert, bamboo squatted right in front of me (still on the dais) . and with every ounce of plasticity left in my body, i extended one arm in his direction, along with 10 or 20 other arms. and this time, my pointer and middle fingers touched a part of his hand. i have no idea nor care which part as long as for one brief moment, we were physically connected. and i slept with the thought :)
