It’s not long and the items are not fancy. I’ve found most of these things to be a necessity in my resolve to read more books than I had last year so:
1) pocket sized dictionary (which I can bring anywhere, anytime…a 3x3x2 sized would be perfect)
2) paperbacks - no particular genre and need not be brand new as long as there is not a page missing but if you’ll insist I’ve a handful must read in order of priority:
- Fugitive from the Cubicle Police: A Dilbert Book, The Joy of Work: Dilbert's Guide to Finding Happiness at the Expense of Your Co-Workers, Words You Don’t Want to Hear on your Annual Review: A Dilbert Book, It's Not Funny If I Have to Explain It: A Dilbert Treasury, Thriving on Vague Objectives, in short anything from the brilliant mind of Scott Adams (to feed my gluttony for self flagellation)
- Life of Pi by Yann Martel
- Waiting by Ha Jin
- The God of Small Things by Arundhati Roy
- The Amazing Adventures of Kavalier Clay by Michael Chabon
- Midnight’s Children by Salman Rushdie
3) Crossword puzzle book (in which to practice/apply my aptitude for words)
4) A fancy yet inexpensive pencil or black ink ballpoint pen
I told you, it’s not much and you have exactly 24 hours to find one you’d like to give me.
