service over worship?

waste not, want not
plastic kills
taking pains to remove plastics from this spindly greens along the coast which had earlier pierced my right big toe. 'twas the lesser of two evils when all that was left to choose from was between this and working in the vicinity of rotting fish.

only the strong survives
for almost two years now, i've been wondering if the mangrove propagules we took pains into planting along cordova coast survived. well, this one managed.

SM got it all for us

...including "biodegradable" bags. it's been ages since i've been to the mall last and it was a welcome surprise to know that SM is now using earth friendly materials. the term "biodegradable plastics" was first introduced to me by tatay way back in the late 80's. he was doubtful about the economics of mass producing the kind though. twenty years later, his thoughts were proven right. not only does the process require much energy, the products still take weeks or months to completely break down. nevertheless, it a good start.
mankind seemed to have finally waken after a very deep sleep where environmental issues are concerned.
in schools, children are already introduced to the term "global warming".
in church last sunday, pastor reminded every one about God's purpose of creating man, i.e., to be stewards of his creation.
on tv, "global warming" is a red hot issue.
well, it's never too late for turning over a new leaf

just some quick updates from a recent long weekend

~ had to reschedule a very important meeting for an equally important birthday celebration...the beginning of my 34th year on earth. it was still a terrible trip i made but worth every wait, bumpy ride and dust. twice, ceres has disappointed me. coming 30 minutes later after the ferry hit the wharf, i missed the 10:45 trip to bacolod from canlaon and had to wait another hour for the next departure. home finally, lunch consisted of leftover chicken from big lil bro's graduation party the previous day. i was ready to hit the sack after a quick bath but mom beat me to it, i doggedly went to man the shop. dinner at sis' place was instant pansit canton.
~ bjork was molting excessively so i made some research about the probable causes (and cure). three things may cause fur loss: stress, mange and flea. it's neither flea nor mange so it has to be stress which is characterized by his excessive grooming. well, he's been through a lot of changes lately: relocation, diet, company. wow, if i were bjork and displays the same symptom for stress, i should be bald by now for all the headache these oem issues that's been hounding me mercilessly these days.
~ fell right back into my morning routine, i.e., struggled to wake up at 7, went marketing and cooked breakfast while having my first cup of coffee (diluted with evaporated milk). whenever i felt like it, i would walk from caridad to agora taking the short cut to the neighboring uriarte subdivision, taking a quick peek at the tennis court and caused my heart to skip a beat each time.
~ afternoons were spent on ym chatting with annie or taking jen-jen's pc-to-pc calls
~ revisited old time favorites on tv. this time, 'twas bh 90210 that caught my fancy. i wonder what keeps jason priestly busy now.
~ inspired by the challenge from lear maniniyot's flickr group (that i joined recently) activity to photograph the sun, i woke up one morning at dawn and patiently waited for the sun to creep from behind kanlaon. i took a shot every minute until i thought i had enough material to choose from. and what has become of it? never mind.

my 2008 birthday wish list:

It’s not long and the items are not fancy. I’ve found most of these things to be a necessity in my resolve to read more books than I had last year so:
1) pocket sized dictionary (which I can bring anywhere, anytime…a 3x3x2 sized would be perfect)
2) paperbacks - no particular genre and need not be brand new as long as there is not a page missing but if you’ll insist I’ve a handful must read in order of priority:
- Fugitive from the Cubicle Police: A Dilbert Book, The Joy of Work: Dilbert's Guide to Finding Happiness at the Expense of Your Co-Workers, Words You Don’t Want to Hear on your Annual Review: A Dilbert Book, It's Not Funny If I Have to Explain It: A Dilbert Treasury, Thriving on Vague Objectives, in short anything from the brilliant mind of Scott Adams (to feed my gluttony for self flagellation)
- Life of Pi by Yann Martel
- Waiting by Ha Jin
- The God of Small Things by Arundhati Roy
- The Amazing Adventures of Kavalier Clay by Michael Chabon
- Midnight’s Children by Salman Rushdie
3) Crossword puzzle book (in which to practice/apply my aptitude for words)
4) A fancy yet inexpensive pencil or black ink ballpoint pen
I told you, it’s not much and you have exactly 24 hours to find one you’d like to give me.
