I'm
not really big on horror movies but KZ spied a recent one that Glen was watching on his laptop. It just didn't help that I caught the
one who dared me watch "The Conjuring" avert her eyes in one of the
scary scenes. Heaven knows how many times she did it last night. After "The Ring" which I watched with the boys back at PCemento, I haven't watched anything scary until now.
Well it's about the spirits of a witch mother (who found no peace at killing her own child but blames the devil about forcing her to do the act) and that of her child's (who lingers seeking to be put to rest) she sacrificed to keep her place in damnation (?!?!), the unfortunate family who got lured by a really cheap deal into the cursed home and the couple who made everything okay (and make a living by giving lectures on their accounts of their other-worldly adventures).
Given the sparse horror movies I was brave enough to watch, this one I like on the merits of its clear plot, the progression of the characters, the conflict and its resolution. It started with the story of a doll that was used as a conduit of the spirit that actually wanted to inhabit a living being, followed by the introduction of the couple whose business is resolving these kinds of issues and collecting artifacts related to the same and a family of seven transferring to a new house in the country. The story focused on the harrowing experiences of the family since day one that usually occur at exactly 3:07 like leg pulling, birds crashing on the window pane, knocking on the wall, the works. When things got out of hand, the mother (who ironically was the one who got possessed) sought the help of experts who suggested exorcism of the house as it held secrets so dark, its shadow hang around the family and there's no other way of escaping it. Well, exorcism was supposed to be the priest's job but since the children were not baptized, the local church still needed a go signal from the Vatican to perform the act. The process would of course take time and that was something that they don't have a luxury of. And so, the experts did the exorcism job and did it pretty well.
I just love happy endings. Hahahaha!
I maintain though that it would still have done better even without the scary faces (of that doll, the dead mother and that of the devil's that possessed the mother). Tsk. Talk about not getting everything you want :)
Post script: My bladder woke me up to get emptied at 3:00 a.m. today. Did I dare heed it and go to the loo? No, sir/ma'am. Boy, I'm pathetic. Hahahah!
