The Conjuring

I'm not really big on horror movies but KZ spied a recent one that Glen was watching on his laptop. It just didn't help that I caught the one who dared me watch "The Conjuring" avert her eyes in one of the scary scenes. Heaven knows how many times she did it last night. After "The Ring" which I watched with the boys back at PCemento, I haven't watched anything scary until now.

Well it's about the spirits of a witch mother (who found no peace at killing her own child but blames the devil about forcing her to do the act) and that of her child's (who lingers seeking to be put to rest) she sacrificed  to keep her place in damnation (?!?!), the unfortunate family who got lured by a really cheap deal into the cursed home and the couple who made everything okay (and make a living by giving lectures on their accounts of their other-worldly adventures).

Given the sparse horror movies I was brave enough to watch, this one I like on the merits of its clear plot, the progression of the characters, the conflict and its resolution. It started with the story of a doll that was used as a conduit of the spirit that actually wanted to inhabit a living being, followed by the introduction of the couple whose business is resolving these kinds of issues and collecting artifacts related to the same and a family of seven transferring to a new house in the country. The story focused on the harrowing experiences of the family since day one that usually occur at exactly 3:07 like leg pulling, birds crashing on the window pane, knocking on the wall, the works. When things got out of hand, the mother (who ironically was the one who got possessed) sought the help of experts who suggested exorcism of the house as it held secrets so dark, its shadow hang around the family and there's no other way of escaping it. Well, exorcism was supposed to be the priest's job but since the children were not baptized, the local church still needed a go signal from the Vatican to perform the act. The process would of course take time and that was something that they don't have a luxury of. And so, the experts did the exorcism job and did it pretty well.

I just love happy endings. Hahahaha!

I maintain though that it would still have done better even without the scary faces (of that doll, the dead mother and that of the devil's that possessed the mother). Tsk. Talk about not getting everything you want :)

Post script: My bladder woke me up to get emptied at 3:00 a.m. today. Did I dare heed it and go to the loo? No, sir/ma'am. Boy, I'm pathetic. Hahahah!

BAMR in a different perspective

For the third time since I've been in the academe, BAMR has been our venue for the School's Acquaintance Party. One lesson learned, it can be a little crowded in the loo. So to avoid having to hurry when doing the big thing or changing, I opted to take a room to myself which I ended up sharing with Jen and KZ. I mean how sad can it get staying in that resort for the night, alone.

The day took its toll. After some swimming session, in the rain, cut short by the presence of some five rowdy locals, we foraged for rice and water to go with the humongous grilled fish left over from our luncheon feast.

Looking back, participation was the farthest from my lit of activities. Besides the assignment of judging the two major contests for the day and awarding the prizes, I did nothing more than sit on the table and check the goings on and laugh my heart out. And there was some ogling as well that rendered me giddy.

Nevertheless, the day rendered us all tired that shortly after our sparse dinner, all three of us were already asleep.

Going down to civilization was another matter, this being our first time to commute. We chose the safe and easy way, the highway. From the resort, we took a trike going to Maao, and from Maao, the Jeepstar to Bago (Ubay intersection) which trip took us one and a half hour to complete. We could have alit at the Maao Central but it was already late when I realized that it would have saved us a lot of time if we decided to be adventurous and get lost in the middle of nowhere :D

The Wolverine

Set in Kyoto? Hmmm, it looks like things are pointing towards my near future. Hahaha!

Of all the movies I have been to this year, this one has the most viewers so far that when we came in, we had to take the seats near the humongous screen.

It still bugs me though that of all the X-Men, Wolverine gets the most attention.

Hugh Jackman playing the role might have helped. I don't know but whenever a scene calls for showing a lot of emotion, this man delivers it so vividly. When he confronted the hunter about leaving the grizzly in the forest to suffer, I cringe at the power of his rage. When his patience was sorely tested by Yashida , I completely understood why he was compelled to end him (I couldn't help smiling at seeing Yashida's head over an adamantium body. The thought of Sheldon Cooper crossed my mind ever so briefly).

We're Having a Baby!

It's going to be a difficult seven months ahead for me.

No, I'm not pregnant. I am not supposed to (Doctor's advise). Sis is.

Since it's her first and she's 38, she's showing some difficulties. Yesterday she had to see her OB to confirm if indeed there is a beat of life beating inside her. The result was affirmative but she has to take extra care to address the bleeding that she is experiencing.

Back to my part in all these, well, I had to break the news to everyone. Hubby and wife were excited, of course. Nanay even volunteered to assist sis in the morning when I suggested to send Lovely there to help. Tatay said, he would have done it himself only if he could. I was the only one who seemed to just being happy and not doing anything. Hahaha!

Why difficult? Well, dealing with sis on a daily basis is challenge enough. Sis with raging hormones is an entirely different matter. I have to get my patience back.
