crossing tañon strait one moonless night...a first

anything is possible to those who have the constitution of making things happen. whether it be life-changing or simply the desire to extend a weekend homecoming, it does not matter.

so if you happen to be a negrense working in cebu just as i am, this option might be worth looking into.

wonderful thing about ceres is that, trip schedules are strictly kept. daily night trips for bacolod from cebu and the other way around are available for the adventurous souls.
one of the advantages of travelling at night is avoiding the stifling heat of the sun. also, waking up at the other side of tañon strait as the sun peeks from the shadows of negros mountain range. unless you get to the terminal too early like we did and happen to grab a doughnut and a cup of coffee to pass the time, then most likely you'll end up like me, i.e. wide awake for the duration of the trip. i so envy dolly who had been in r.e.m. as soon as her back hit the bunk.

but that wasn't so bad really, being awake that is. at least you'll get to be the first on the qeueu to buy tickets and avail of the least deplorable bunk on which to spend the 2-hour ferry ride. with both companions asleep, and the moonless night rendering the the seascape jet black, the trip seemed to last forever.

a piece of advice. when taking this route, don't take take the "de luxe" bus. the highway from escalante port to the town about 30-min drive from there is badly in need of repair. dust was everywhere.
this is without doubt a long (and expensive) way going to la carlota. travel with a friend to dispel boredom. better yet, go with somebody from silay or victorias. i actually did. and with a little bit of persuasion, breakfast time was spent at canetown where dolly's folks prepared corned beef, eggs and fried fish enough to feed an army.

try to get some sleep on the barge. one of the crew will wake you up anyways so that the view that silay city is so proud of wouldn't be lost to you. maddie had to shake me awake at her stop.
